Junior Sailing Program

The HYC Junior Sailing Program (JSP) has been formed to encourage young sailors to experience the joy of sailing and to teach the essential elements of boat handling, seamanship, water safety skills, and racing in a safe and fun environment. The JSP promotes sportsmanlike behavior among its sailors and encourages the teaching of life-long lessons, which seek to build character, foster teamwork, and strengthen respect for self, others, and the boating environment.

Through its programs, the JSP seeks to support both recreational sailors and serious competitors to create sailors who will enjoy and contribute to the sport of sailing for their entire lives.

Classes are provided at the lowest possible cost and club owned Optimist sailboats are available for use. Interaction with other sailing club youth programs provides opportunities for involvement in additional clinics and events. Growth goals of the program include summer sailing camps, expansion to Laser/Sunfish/C15/420 boats, and junior regattas.
